At 4AM she awoke to roaring thunder
She made her way to her porch and stared in wonder
She stayed awake all night and watched the lightning illuminate
She smoke a joint as she listened to Dexy's Midnight Runners
About a quarter to 8 the storm concluded
She takes her coffee with cream, and while she brewed it
She went upstairs to change but sat with her socks held in her hand
She spent the morning shuffling through her favourite music
And every song
Takes her back
To a time and place
Where she could sing along
Without caring who was listening
Her college days
An empty subway to her best friend's house
Her pop punk emo phase
Each playlist acting like a photobook
And when her workday was done and she got home
She drew herself a bath and checked her phone
At night she went for a walk and sat on a swingset in a park
Her favourite music put her to sleep as it played on her stereo

Finally off the clean-cut & dull BNL leash, this might go somewhere. More on the album than on this retro-styled single, but it's fun nonetheless. Marco Flammang
